It is best to send your questions via email (sternh@uci. edu): this data analysis is considered part of the nal exam; it is worth 15% of the nal exam grade. Effects of smoking on lung function in children. The e ects of cigarette smoke exposure include impaired lung function and increased risk of heart disease and cancer. This is true for both active smoking by an individual or for passive smoke from a housemate or relative. The data used in this exam come from a series of studies that helped to establish the e ect of passive smoke on children by following a group of children over time (a longitudinal study). We do not consider the longitudinal data here; we focus instead on a subset of the data comprised of a single observation for each of 654 children.
