Document Summary

Tendency for group members to discuss knowledge that is commonly held among multiple members for a lot longer. They discuss it a lot more often and giving greater weight into actually making final decision. As a result they underutilize information that is uniquely held. Why does this happen: too much similarity in info known, conflict avoidance. Why do ppl engage in this: when it info that is common ppl like it we smile and feel good, group think- emphasis on maintaining good relationships. Groups have many advantages and disadvantages when making decisions. A group of people will naturally have access to more information and have a greater capacity to process that information. Additionally, a decision that is made by a group brings more advocates than a decision that has been made in isolation. However, groups also present challenges to effective decision making.
