Produces 8 haploid ascospores arranged linearly within an ascus. Duplications: also has a loop in polytene chromosomes. Inversions: forms a knot where self binding occurs. Reciprocal translations: parts of different chromosomes exchanged in equal amounts. Pseudolinkage: having p >>> np, but not having genes actually linked. Perithecia were ruptured to release the asci and ascospores. Ascospores are pigmented and show phenotypic variation based on genotype. Arrangement of ascospores directly reflects segregation of alleles.
