A metamorphic rock will have a different texture from its parent or original rock. A metamorphic rock will have its texture determined by 4 things: the original rock, temp and pressure at which metamorphism occurred, effects of tectonics and the effects of fluid (ex. Hot water vapour and sometimes carbon dioxide are the most important fluids in metamorphic processes. If a rock is non-foliated its name is based on its composition (ex. Quartzite is produced when grains of quartz in sandstone are welded together while the rock is subjected to high temps.
