PSYCH238 Chapter Notes - Chapter 2: Negative Affectivity, Job Satisfaction, Positive Affectivity
Document Summary
Trait activation theory: personality influences people"s behaviour when the situation calls for a particular personality characteristic. Locus of control: a set of beliefs about whether one"s behaviour is controlled mainly by internal or external forces. High external fate, luck, powerful people. High internal self-initiative, personal actions, free will. People who are higher on internal control are more satisfied with their job, more committed to an organization, earn more money, and achieve higher organizational positions. In addition, they perceive stress better and experience less burnout. Self monitoring: the extent to which people observe and regulate how they appear and behave in social settings and relationships. People who wear their heart on their sleeves are less self- monitoring as they act how they feel and say what they think in spite of their social surroundings. High self monitors are the opposite (are like actors). They have jobs like sales, law, public relations, and politics.
