Anger serves as a primary emotional trigger of whites" negative racial attitudes. Experimentally induce disgust, anger, and fear, and find that anger is uniquely powerful in boosting opposition to racially redistributive policies among white racial conservatives. Nonracial attitudes like ideology or small gov preferences not activated by these negative emotions. Sr - symbolic racism, racial resentment, modern racism. Rnv - race neutral values (role of gov, pol ideology, individualism) Pretest and posttest with one week gap (different from other studies with only posttest) Wave 1 : racial and general attitudinal measures. Wave 2: manipulation and measures of racial policy opinion. Emotion induction technique: show face expressing an emotion and ask subject to recall person/ experience/ object that gives rise to that emotion; subjet also asked to write down something that makes them feel the emotion. Concern: the object focused on by the subject instead of the emotions responsible for the changes observed in policy views.
