Matte-blanco introduced an important modification to freud"s uc, in order to save the notion from being forgotten in modern psychoanalysis development. He succeeded in formalizing (mathematizing) the study of the unconsciou. Studied logical principles that would allow systematic unconscious violations of classical, asymmetric logic, the basis of consciousness. Unconscious logic from two principles: (1) generalization (a part can equal the whole, (2) symmetry (similarities can be transformed into identities) Concept: idea abstract and susceptible to generalization; grouping of objects of experience into classes. Unconscious concept (freud): close to notion of symbolic equivalence. Kleinian psychoanalysts: uc made up of fantasies of relations with objects; fantasies are mental representation of instincts. Freud in stressing psychological meaning of childhood trauma (instead of its reality), shifted focus from physiological way of thinking to a psychological one.
