Extinction through time alone is harder to do with emotionally conditioned things like fear. Worked with kids who had developed a fear of rabbits on their own, and tried to extinguish it. Pleasant stimulus + feared object change in response. Alypsia: sea slug with few nerve cells. Conditioned the slug to withdraw its gills after the shock. Findings: conditioning process, at the neural level, involves changes in strength of connections in the brain. Radical behaviorism because he absolutely insisted that the environment is everything. Got his phd from harvard and ended up working there for most of his life. Really believed that humans do not have free will and are completely controlled by the environment.
