These segments are going to receive the name according to the area they are at. Regions: cervical region( c1-c8), thoracic region (t1-t12), lumbar region(l1-l5), sacral region (s1-s5) Each region has tracts that are involved with the movement or sending messages to a particular area. Spinal cord extends from the foramen magnum to the first lumbar vertebrae(l1) The further you travel down the spine the larger the gray matter becomes compared to the white matter.
