ACCT 2000 Chapter : Amanda Laughlin Summary
Document Summary
Last wednesday in my intro to environmental engineering class, i was given the opportunity to listen to a presentation given by ms. amanda laughlin, the chief engineer for the. I learned about some of the responsibilities of an engineer working for the state department. One of ms. laughlin"s many responsibilities is overseeing treatment of water using regulations directly from the epa. Other responsibilities include making sure her subordinates are following the right rules and regulations, chemically monitoring water sources monthly, and emergency response. Due to louisiana"s low-rate drinking water (rated a d-) her job seems particularly stressful. One particularly interesting aspect of her job involves relaying boil advisories and fixing them. Turning mississippi river water into tap water is no easy task, so a lot of treatment goes into this process. Not only must the chemical composition of the water be monitored, but also the storage, pressure, and transportation of said water.
