ANTH 1001 Chapter : Anth 1001
Document Summary
Held in high esteem by public and academic community. Impressed by functional integration of organs in the body of a species. He thought that if organs were changed in ones lifetime, it wouldn"t be beneficial, but would disrupt it and be disadvantagous. In the past, there was a series of violent, cataclysmic environmental changes that periodically led to the extinction of animals in the affected regions. After the cataclysmic events subsided, areas were repopulated by animals migrating from neighboring, unaffected areas. Immigrant species were similar in appearance to those that went extinct. Didn"t get involved in the issue of whether a species could be changed over time. He thought that physical geographic locations changed by slow, progressive, cumulative changes. Forces acting today that shaped the earth are the same forces that acted in the past (uniformity in today and the past. ) Earth must be millions of years old for this to occur. Wrote an essay on the principle of population.
