Subsistence economics: subsistence and economy are intertwined, subsistence provides raw material for economy, economy activates subsistence. Economics: choices that participants make in a culture that affect how that group uses resources and distributes goods and services produced by the resources. Just like how culture has norms that we don"t always follow, choices can be good or bad, economically: ex- people that get into credit card debt as a result of bad economic choices. Resources: raw material for the economy, natural- land, water, minerals. Information/knowledge- where the best place is to hunt: leisure time, prestige- within the social group can function economically, ex- in our society we admire those who have the most stuff or money. They have the most prestige: ex- in some societies those that give away the most have the most prestige, the metaphor time is money . Implies that both time and money are resources.
