Dysphagia (deglutition disorders) term used for swallowing disorders involving food and liquids. Feeding- is the transportation of food from the plate to the mouth, Swallowing- is the transportation of food from the mouth to the stomach. Buccal phase- mastication, salivation makes food form bolus. Pharyngeal phase -pushing bolus to back of the mouth with tongue into the esophagus, swallow is triggered as the food passes the uvula. When triggered, 3 things happen: nasal cavity closes (palatal muscles, elevation of larynx, closure of the larynx (epiglottis) Esophageal stage- the bolus is moved to the stomach from the esophagus through peristalsis. Evidence based practice- any therapy used that is proven by research, it is important because it"s cheap. Voice - the sound produced in a person"s larynx and uttered through the mouth, as speech or song. What are some causes of voice disorders: (antihistamines) Smoking, vocal abuse, stroke, brain injury, trauma, alcohol, drugs.
