Document Summary

Use genetic material from 2 genetically different individuals but want children to have same genes as you so they need half the number so that when they fuse together we restore the correct number of chromosomes, genetic material. The cell starts out as diploid and there are two chromosome #1 it doesn"t matter which one goes into the daughter cell. A cell in g1 of the cell cycle contains a total of 6 chromosomes in 3 homologous pairs. Ploidy refers to the number of sets f chromosomes in a cell. Aneuploid- change in the number of a single chromosome (down"s syndrome, etc. ) Same length, centromere position, banding pattern, and same genes (haploid cannot be homologous) Only get homologous chromosomes when you have two sets. Structure is a tetrad because there are 4 molecules of dna in it. Arms physically coming together chromosomes switch parts with each other. The homologous chromosomes separate into different daughter cells.
