Stratification: inequality of entire society; most important concept in sociology bc societies are stratified based on gender, race, etc; covers wide range of other societies; people don"t move forward without. Inequality: unequal distribution of scarce goods or resources among indiv. Inequality: ex: i am rich you are poor. Origins of family, private property, and states -nation states develop as result of private property. Social class: category of people who have approximately the same amount of power and wealth and the same life chances to acquire wealth; classification scheme; life chances. Blue collar jobs: doesn"t require special liscensing, police, fireman white collar jobs: lawyers, ceo"s. Dysfunctions (of inequality) limit productivity: 1% make a lot of money. Other people know they wont make that much, so they don"t work as hard so productivity goes down. Animosity: jealous, frustrated, or feel cheated no social change. Ideology: set of cultural beliefs, values, and attitudes that legitimate the status quo.
