Document Summary

Cell division- most cell division results in daughter cells with identical genetic information (dna), the exception is meiosis (a special type of division that can produce sperm and egg cells) Mitosis (other cells equally dividing) and meiosis (dna split in half, two gametes) Cell cycle = the life of a cell (from formation) to its own division. Chromatin- complex of dna and protein that condenses during cell division. Genome- all the dna in a cell, genome is packed into chromosomes in most organisms. Chromosomes- dna molecules are packed into chromosomes, combination of protein and dna (chromatin) Somatic cells (non reproductive cells that have two sets of chromosomes most cells in your body) and gametes (reproductive cells: sperm and eggs, have half as many chromosomes as somatic cells) G1(first gap), s(synthesis), g2(second gap- centrosomes hanging out, dna loose and expanded, chromatin duplicated)
