BIOL 1209 Chapter : FWA 1 1209
Document Summary
Industrial revolution leads to the decrease in fitness value for the light peppered. Natural selection is a primary role in evolution. Natural selection leads to the sustaining of favorable adaptions through a process involving the uneven survival of organisms due to environmental forces. Biston betularia, also known as the peppered moth, is a species of moth living in england. There are types of peppered moths, the light colored and the dark colored moth. Prior to the 1800"s there was a vast abundance of light colored moth. Though, due to the industrial revolution soot caused all the tree trunks to turn black. After this occurred the dark moth suddenly became extremely abundant while the light moth became a rarity. This is believed to be due to the fact that since the trees were now black, the dark moths could blend in and were eaten less by birds (evolution and natural selection).
