BIOL 2153 Chapter : Middletown
Document Summary
The first moment that struck me occurred when john dodge visited mary swanson"s home and fixed her sink. During this scene, they were the only two onstage, and were enjoying small sandwiches and even smaller conversation together in the living room. Yet, when john goes to fix the sink, there is commotion and neither john nor mary can understand what the other is saying. This awkward interaction continues for quite some time with both characters responding to what they interpreted through the noise. As an audience member, we are able to see how they overlook this lack of communication and mindlessly keep talking, as if they were never communicating in the first place. This moment struck me because it shows how we, as humans, are social creatures and ultimately long for connections with others. Mary were awkward and peculiar, they provided for each other.
