Direct: trophozoites via saliva by kissing, sharing utensils. Mechanically: binary fission of trophozoites via roaches and flies. Biflagellated trophozoite enters via water forced up nose to olfactory nerve. Cyst: < 10 um round or oval shape. Commensal feeds on bacteria in gut so actually can be beneficial to pigs! Humans , wild animals (rh), domestic cattle (rh) Direct contact with trophozoites of cysts via inhalation or cutaneous (skin, eye, lungs common) Oral: fecal contamination of food and water w/ cysts. Host: salivarian transmission of metacyclic trypamastigotes in saliva injected directly into bite. Trypomastigote in blood smear, lymph node aspiratesm or cns fluid. Direct sexual transmission of horse"s body fluids containing trypomastigotes. Host: bite wound contamination by metacylic trypamastigotes in vector feces or fecal contamination of mucous membrane like eye, mouth. Humans, cats dogs (ph and rh), certain rodents (rh) Rh: beaver, dogs, sheep and other wild or domestic animals promastigote in saliva injected directly into bite.
