CE 3700 Chapter : Lab 7
Document Summary
In this lab tests will be conducted to find mixture design and volumetric analysis of a hot mix asphalt (hma). Hma is made up of asphalt cement, aggregates (ca and fa), and air. These values are needed to design and asphalt mix with good attributes, not too hard nor soft, which is determined by the asphalt cement content in the mixture. Mix design is used to avoid deformations such as thermal cracking, rutting, and fatigue cracking. The process for design is material selection, design aggregate structure, design asphalt content, and evaluation of mixture. The bulk specific gravity test is used to determine density and bulk specific gravity (gmb) of a compacted sample. The specific gravity by rice method is used to find specific gravity and density of an uncompacted sample. The tests were done in accordance with astm d 2726, d.
