Ethyl acetate is a colorless sweet- smelling liquid: 10 ml of saturated nahco3 solution, 10 ml of water, and 5 ml of saturated nacl was swirled with the ethyl acetate mixture in a 250 ml separatory funnel. The solution turned from clear to cloudy after being shaken: two layers are formed after being shaken.
