CMST 2010 Chapter : Tes 2 DECEPTION
Document Summary
Any communication or omissions that serve to distort or admit the truth. Ex: telling a friend she doesn"t look fat in her pants ii. Malicious- negative lies that can be damaging to a relationship. Ways to lie: i. concealing- omit part of the truth. Told someone you are not doing anything tonight (you don"t want to hang out with them) ii. Three types to falsify: equivocation- not really giving the truth but ambiguous enough that it doesn"t seem like a lie. Told your friend that you stayed home with your family tonight but you really hung out with your other friends: exaggeration- maximizing a lie too much. Adding more and more details that can become obvious of a lie: understatement- minimizing a story. Ex: told someone that you didn"t tell them about the party you went to because it was boring instead of telling them they were not actually invited.
