Document Summary

Links between leader and subordinate can be high or low links, in which the high link (in group members) is characterized by high trust, respect, positive tone and so on. Low link (out group members) is characterized by mistrust, the lack of respect, negative tone and so on. Quality of leadership is determined by the interactions between the leader and the group members. There are three phases of interaction in which the leader and the individual group members negotiate roles in the workplace. Phase 1: the supervisor attempts to observe the job-related talents and motivations of the member. Phase 2: the role alteration and performance is handled by the subordinate rather than the supervisor. Phase 3: when the supervisor accepts the subordinate and his or her behaviors become routine. Characterized by ever changing environment, and transformational leaders must be prepared to deal with the changes that our world and society bring.
