Crucial to this is understanding of the interactions of energy and matter, the nature and movement of energy in the earth system, and the origins and evolution of the earth system. This course will survey the earth"s major environments, identifying and examining the key processes in operation in each, and exploring how these environments change over time. Because the earth"s surface is extremely large and varied, we generally need to identify and isolate smaller components or systems for study.
