He marches into rome and accepts the title of augustus (meaning the exalted one) In addition to this title, he collected different offices (princeps - first citizen) He insisted that he hadnt changed romes government. Another title he was given was "pontifex maximus" meaning the supreme pontiff. This was technically the leader of roman religion. Also "imperator" this means "commander in chief" of the army, the head of the legion. This is the word we get the english word of "emperor" from. He comes to power in 27 bce and rome is exhausted. There has been at least 20 years of civil war. It"s with a great feel of relief that they ask him to save them. And he did, he brought back stability to rome.
