After the western collapse, the eastern part would last for another 1,000 years. Constantinople is the capitol of the byzantine empire, for almost 1,000 years. Had a dream, to try to recapture the western empire from the barbarians. He captured a bit of spain, some of italy, and north africa. Before he could capture the west, he had to be sure his power in the east was absolute. He created a unified law code, written code of all the laws of the roman empire.
