Federal government sends message to the south that we are not defending black people. 3rd factor is psychology believe that lynching was to protect white women from black rapist. 4th factor was the fears of the populist becomes real threat to upper-class white folks. Rich whites wanted poor whites and blacks separate so they can control them. 5th factor was black progress they want to stop and creating the rigid racial order can stop it. Its design to exploit black people: protest tradition- people who challenge the creation of the racial order. Fredrick douglas leads the way tremendous impact on american society.
