So now they have to pay for labor. This should be good for freed slaves because they can sell their labor (30613$: slaves have no other options, so they are not in the position to bargain. They had to work for the people that owned them. End up in arrangements that are not advantageous to them: sharecropping, tenants, renters, landlords, sharecropping: landowner gets agreement with laborer. Sharecropper gets to work a portion of the land. Free slaves don"t have money yet, so its all just accumulating debt: getting loans from white people. Whites are taking advantage of the few opportunities blacks have.
