Shirley clark, who was born and raised in chicago, had what she would consider, a wonderful childhood. Shirley lived with her mother, father, and sister. Shirley went to school and took dance lessons, and her lifestyle was comfortable. Her father was a bricklayer, and her mother had worked at a laundromat when shirley and her sister were very young, but her mother"s job was short lived, because it was uncommon for women to work at that time. When the war broke out, shirley"s father was supportive of women in the workplace. Shirley, her sister, and their mother all took jobs that would support the war effort. Shirley worked in a mailroom at the chrysler corporation in detroit. Shirley was then sent to a main plant on lynch road, where she was apart of the accounting department. Shirley had to work because her father had an accident, which resulted in an injured arm.
