Legalism in the 1940"s-50"s used the courts to go through justice for equal rights. Later on in the 60"s peaceful protest started to emerge. It addressed segregation, housing discrimination, job discrimination etc. Not a lot of support for african americans, blacks were not allowed to vote during the primaries. When black voters shifted to roosevelt, they began voting republican. Supreme court said it was unconstitutional for prohibiting blacks from voting for primaries. Less than 5% of all blacks in us were registered to vote. Groups like ncaap under leadership of others and thurgood marshall started challenging the ideas of. Separate but equal saying black schools are not equal, they are breaking the law. Claim that even if schools are funded equally it"s still unequal. For example george mclaruin wants to go to law school but they don"t have a black law program but they cannot refuse to submitted him because he is black.
