Document Summary

The core question of the war was can a state leave the union? the constitution is silent on the issue. Confederate states answer yes to this question simply to protect slavery. The northern states answer no and fight the war to bring the south back to the union and to stop end slavery: post civil war situation. Most if not all of the war was fought down south. They lost the war and were utterly defeated. At start of war, the north simply wanted to simply target slave owners, but ended up destroying the entire south. If the enslaved peoples labored to harvest, there was no one to do it when there were no slaves. The cash crop economy stopped after the war. There were more deaths in the civil war than any other war debts combined. It is informally known as the harvest of death. almost 38% of confederate men died.
