The culture of the 1920s: consumer culture one major shift in the u. s. is how they switch from being a production based economy to a consumer based economy. The supply of goods would always lack behind the demand. Now production has caught up to and even surpassed the demand. You can either produce less, or convince people to buy more. The latter is what is seen in the 1920s. People begin to buy everything that is produced: advertising this is such an important industry of the time because it convinces people to buy the products. Now they are trying to tap into consumer"s desires. Products will make them more attractive and make them more successful: disaccumulation producing more than is needed. When supply is greater: modernity and the therapeutic ethic than demand, sigmund freud one of the most famous psychoanalysts.
