It entails chronic inflammation of the liver and could lead to cirrhosis or could be deadly in itself: cancer: long-term alcohol abuse has been linked to esophageal, stomach, mouth, tongue, and liver cancers. Even though scientists have not yet discovered a specific gene for alcoholism, there is still a strong link between alcohol abuse and family history: people drink for many different reasons. Sometimes people drink to escape their emotional problems or social anxieties. Children who were raised in families in which alcohol was a part of their traditions are typically better adjusted once they are allowed to drink.
