Dave has a tumor on his pituitary gland that requires surgery. The operation will require exceptional surgical skill both to reach the gland and to avoid serious, possibly fatal, complications. Describe the location of the pituitary gland and the associated anatomical features of it. The primary function of the appendicular skeleton is movement. It includes bones of the upper and lower limbs. Girdles attach the limbs to the axial skeleton. (pectoral girdle is the upper limbs and pelvic girdle is the lower limbs) The pectoral girdle: consists of the left and right clavicle (anteriorly) and left and right scapula (posteriorly, connects the upper limbs and axial skeleton, clavicle ( collarbone ) Location: above first rib, extends from the sternum to the scapula. Acromioclavicular joint: aka. lateral end, appearance: flattened portion of the bone. Sternal end: articulates with the manubrium of the sternum, aka. medial end, this creates the sternoclavicular joint, scapula ( shoulder blade )
