Document Summary

Discuss the effects of sensitization of stainless steels on intergranular corrosion and stress corrosion cracking in these steels. Selective leaching occurs in the form of dezincification in many waters, especially stagnant conditions. What is the main reason for this type of corrosion and how is it prevented. The removal of zinc, dezincification; add 1% tin to the brass. Ii) answer any one of the following two questions: (15 pts. ) Describe the mechanism of pit formation and its growth from the start on a passivated metal in chloride solution. The chloride solution penetrates at an ever-increasing rate by an autocatalytic process that causes dissolution to occur within the pit and reduction in oxygen on adjacent surfaces. Indicate all that happens at and around the pit bottom. Electrodes flow from the bottom, which is the anode, to the adjacent sides, which are the cathodes, to further increase the corrosion.
