POLI 2057 Chapter : Strategies Toward Development
Document Summary
It is easy to argue that developing countries often get the short end of the benefits. Such a statement would often ignore the many initiatives that have been put in place to find solutions to the third-world. Foreign assistance: the rest of the world does not just lie idly by because steps have been taken over the years to deal with the problems of the third world. Self-reliance: no longer want to depend on the outside world for foreign assistance. Instead, they will count upon themselves to provide basic resources that the country needs for its own internal market. The main objective is to stand on your own feet and be truly independent: for many of these countries, this was more of a political slogan than an actual, practical policy. Countries use to this to boost ego of that country and to lift the spirt of its people.
