Document Summary
Psychologists stud not only what people and animals do, but also what happens in their bodies and brains as they do it. Psychology is the study of behaviour and mental processes. Behaviour includes all outward or overt actions and reactions. Mental processes are all the internal or covert activities of the mind. Biases are personal judgements based on beliefs rather than facts. The goals of the psychological scientific method are: Description involves observing a behaviour and nothing everything about. Prediction is determining what will happen in the future. Control is the modification of some behaviour to achieve a desired result. Theories are general explanations for sets of observations or facts. Wilhelm wundt attempted to apply scientific principles to the study of the human mind. Believed that consciousness could be broken down into thoughts, experiences, emotions, and other basic elements. Consciousness is the state of being aware of external events.
