Document Summary

Learning is any relatively permanent/ durable change in behavior that is brought about by experience or practice. Classical conditioning- learning to elicit an involuntary response to a stimulus other than the original, natural stimulus that normally produces the response. Learning occurs by association between events in our environment. Our minds naturally connect events that occur in sequence. Reflex- an unlearned, involuntary response to a stimulus. Unconditioned stimulus- a stimulus that automatically triggers a response (no learning) Unconditioned response- unlearned/ naturally occurring response to stimulus. Neutral stimulus- a stimulus that, before conditioning, does not naturally trigger a response; but after, turns into the conditioned stimulus. Conditioned stimulus- originally a neutral stimulus that evokes a conditioned response. Conditioned response- an automatic response that comes about after pairing with the conditioned stimulus. Acquisition- initial stage in classical conditioning during which an association between neutral stimulus and unconditioned stimulus is formed.
