Some awareness, but minimal attention required; day dreaming autopilot . Due to head injury, anesthesia, coma; no awareness. Attention: the internal process people use to set priorities for mental functioning. One method is called dichotic listening: measuring attention. Circadian rhythms occur on a 24 hour cycle and include sleep and wakefulness. Light triggers the suprachiasmatic nucleus to decrease melatonin from the pineal gland and increases : sleep deprivation. Temporary cessations of breaking during sleep and momentary reawakening"s: night terrors. Usually in stage 4, within 2-3 hours of falling asleep. Why do we sleep? : repair/restoration theory, sleep serves an important recuperative function.
