Document Summary

Today, there are two accepted places for information about basic religions. They include contemporary basic religions and information from archaeology. Contemporary basic religions looks at what people do now and decides the past based on present knowledge. For example, when looking at the melanesian people bishop codrington reported their awareness of an unseen force called mana. He also found this in many other cultures as well, and this led him to believe that the force mana could be the origin of religion. Unfortunately, there are many other plausible ideas that would debunk the mana theory such as when they adopted it and how it came across to them. This means we cannot accept something by means of just contemporary basic religions. The second source of information is through archaeology. This allows people to gain valuable information from scrolls and other ancient materials.
