I put together this document to answer some of the questions you may have about the course and to provide you with an overview of the material that we will cover along with deadlines for reading and writing assignments. That is the central question posed in this course. By discussing diverse theories of and approaches to the study of religion, we will challenge ourselves to rethink what makes something religious. " (please note, this is a class about theory. This is not a world religions course and we will not be discussing specific religious traditions, histories, beliefs, or practices. ) As a general education course in the humanities, this course has the following learning objective: lsu graduates will demonstrate an understanding of historical, cultural, and philosophical complexity which supports sophisticated discourse.
