REL 2000 Chapter : RQ 8 Evans Pritchard
Document Summary
7, society"s construct of the heart," pp. Evans-pritchard"s main problem with the previous forms of anthropology was that they explained the primitive belief as the ideas isolated ancient thinkers and failed to see that humans lived in a society. The main problem goes on to be that they went at things from one side and did not have their broad theory views of the origin and religion. Evans argued that all humans approach life to some extent in intellectual terms: many previous scholars had thought primitive people had a different way of thinking than modern people. Evans-pritchard believed his work showed the endorsed view that primitive religion could not be explained without addressing primitive class divisions or economic needs. Primitive people were not mentally deficient, but were all equally mature. This work shed light on the thought process of modern people by making his admirers realize that no part could be understood without the whole.
