Mills and social context: every society has a history, the us has the history of being founded by colonist from europe, everyone has a biography, an individual who was a minority, external influences thoughts and motivations. They didn"t actually do any research to help out their theories. Origins of sociology: marx, social change economics, class conflict bourgeoisie (higher up) and proletariat (workers, revolution classless society no exploitation, weber, social change religion, catholic traditional lifestyle to enter heaven. While catholics would live more humble, protestants would be more focused on wealth: protestant unknown till judgment day. Thought if they showed they were hardworking, wealthy, and saved their earnings then they would automatically go to heaven: durkheim, less social integration higher suicide rates, males > females, unmarried > married.
