Symbol something that is used to represent something else: purple and gold are just two colors, but we at lsu put more meaning behind it. Language - is abstract symbols because we put the meaning behind the characters. Sapir-whorf hypothesis language dictates how we see the world. We have determined our thought process, our self, Norms are relative regarding time, place, and situation: e. g. when the beatles came out, long hair became popular among boys. We all follow specific rules of society (they can and usually are unsaid) Prescriptive are the unsaid rules that we follow. Proscriptive - are unwritten rules that are known by society that one shouldn"t do, or follow.
