In islamic societies, many women wear a head scarf. The variety or veils is just a piece of cloth, but mean different things to people across and within cultures. For non-muslims, veils are often symbols of women"s repression by men and religious zealotry. For many muslims, on the other hand, veiling symbolizes religious commitment, modesty, women"s dress codes, and an islamic identity: other muslims view most veiling, especially nijabs & burqas as a tradition rather than an islamic ritual or rule.
