How the society is made up is social structure (gender, society, and structure affect our structure) Institution is a cluster of roles related to each other. Ascribed vs. achieved- ascribed [given] achieved [something you accomplished: status set- master status is what sticks out, differs based on the situation. Professor sees us as lsu student: social role- role set, prescribed role, role perception-what someone thinks, role performance- your role is different form the formal role, freedom is the amount of leeway despite your role. Role ambiguity- when role isn"t clear, how do we behave? ( ex. When his son brought his girlfriend home; it doesn"t happen in japan, he wasn"t sure how to with each other (ex. Greek members parents don"t want him drinking but he wants behave)
