Document Summary
In last class period, we talked about simmel"s ideas of social interaction, and. 2/15/16 how simply adding one person to a social interaction, changing a dyad into a triad, can dramatically change the nature of that interaction. With the addition of each additional person, continues to change that interaction. Simmel noted that the larger the group, the more likely it is to break up into different factions or splinter groups that wind up being opposed to each other. As societies grew and became more complex and heterogeneous, more and more different sub-groups formed in the society, opposed and competing with each other. Simmel noted that the development of money economies, led to the creation of occupations like traders and merchants, which in turn led to specialization. Once you have people doing special occupations, means that you"re going to have people with different interest, goals and intentions in society.
