SOCL 3101 Chapter : Theories
Document Summary
All value systems are different but equal: different societies have different value systems, not necessarily wrong but different. You have to understand the values from the perspective of the believers: dogmatism- certain dogmas that you follow and believe any others are wrong, mark, durkheim, spencer, protestant ethic and the spirit of capitalism. Never pause for enjoyment: a traditional worker doesn"t want to work long b/c they want to enjoy themselves. All elements of capitalist are already there: some young man goes to suppliers and starts to up pressure to rationalize production, driving workers harder. Used to produce stuff more efficiently and bring down the price (change in intensity). Consequences of doctrine: monessary and convents were ppl who devoted themselves to a lifetime of good work. Taking behavior as a indication of change of belief-no evidence: doctrine in judaism, christianity, and islam w/ lending money.
