Romulus founded the city of rome and established himself as first king in 753 b. c. e. Modern scholars believe that bands of indo-european migrants crossed the alps and settled throughout the italian peninsula. Dynamic people who dominated much of italy between the 8th and 5th century. They built thriving cities and established political and economic alliances between these cities. They also built a fleet and traded with the western mediterranean. In late 6th century they encountered a series of challenges. Greek fleets defeated the etruscans at sea while celtic people attacked them from gaul. The kings of rome ruled through the 6th and 7th centuries.
