There is a morally significant difference between sexual intercourse and other types of human activity. Marriage is constituted by the mutual and total commitment of a man and a woman. Man"s moral task involves the positive attempt to live up to what is best in man. Difference between sex and any other human encounter. Sex is a man and woman giving their bodies over to each other. This situation is no different than the scenario of a woman buying meat from a butcher that ends in a respectful, moral trade. General law of love and respect for human dignity. People want a right to a sexual union before marriage when there is a firm intention of marriage and when the people love each other. The church says no to this: however firm the intention of the people, unions cannot guarantee the sincerity and fidelity of the relationship between man and woman.
